Why is GC the only server with awful hit detection. Almost every other server has better hit detection, so when I'm in practicepvp, it's just such a bad experience and fights are super fucked up. Why is it so hard for GC to get decent hit detection...
The problem is trying to balance the anti-cheat, really. The anti-cheat usually operates on two extremes: not working at all or working too well. Its particularly hard to find a happy medium. That's because usually there isn't. It either never catches hackers or assumes everyone is a hacker. Let me give you a prime example that makes me pull out of hair. If you enable the fly check (to prevent hackers from flying), then suddenly the anti-cheat lets people glitch through blocks just from mining. But if you disable it? Everyone can fly. There is no middle ground, its either cause an exploit that ruins the gameplay or allow all hackers to get away with flying. Same applies for most of the PvP checks. Even with that in mind, the anti-cheat itself is actually pretty decent. The anti-cheat works well if your a 1.8+ player with less than 75 ping (assuming your running under the default configuration). The problem is it operates well in a limited set of scenarios. Don't live within 150 miles of the server? Forget about it. Play on 1.7? Forget about it. While this is good for certain servers, its not really optimal for our players. Its safe to say a decent chunk of our players aren't in this optimal field and thus suffer. Another issue is that what is good for one player isn't necessarily good for others. The anti-cheat has been tweaked several times, from players from different regions. Usually what one player applauds, another has issues with. Once again, the issue is with balance. Another problem with the anti-cheat is isn't really a problem with the anti-cheat itself. Its the server being cracked. Because the server is cracked, there are a lot more hackers from a lot of different parts of the world. Premium servers usually can get away with being more lenient with their settings due to there being less hackers (usually but not always, I'm looking at you Hypixel). Furthermore, I'm aware that there are other servers that are using our same anti-cheat. I've played on some of these cracked servers, usually they suffer from lots of hackers or bad hit detection as well. Once again, its all about finding this perfect (non-existent) balance. You usually see more of these servers leaning towards more lenient settings and thus there being more hackers. Ultimately, the problem is a complex one that requires a complex solution. Multiple solutions have been tried, some somewhat complex, others not so much. Eventually a solution will be found that is suitable from everyone. Perhaps upon my return I will look into other, more complex solutions. - Someone else who suffers from bad hit detection TL; DR. Its really hard to balance and make it good for everyone, what one player considers good settings ruins gameplay for another. There are some players who are probably having a hay-day with these settings while everyone else suffers. Balance is key but is extremely hard to suit everyone's needs.
First off, thank you for replying and with detail. So what you are saying is that the balance between anticheat and hit detection is non existent on cracked servers. This would be better if GC had more staff so we wouldn't have to rely on anticheat so much. I am completely aware that the number of staff depends on the number of players. Because generally, more players, more staff. I also might be suffering so bad because I'm from the U.S. No matter my internet speed, I will always have above 150ms (from where I live). I've always felt practicepvp has worse hit detection than factions and other servers which is weird but that might just be me.
I’m also from the US and get between 130-170 ping, makes sense that we both have pretty bad hit detection then. Practice has had a reputation for having issues with its anti-cheats compared to our other sub-servers, even when it had different ones. Pot regulation used to be really bad last reset for example. It’s not impossible to achieve a good middle-ish ground per se, it’s just really, really difficult. It’s a balancing act between catching hackers and things like hit detection. Even at a middle-ish ground there will still be a segment of people unhappy with the solution. It’s like trying to split $100 between your two best friends but neither being happy with anything less than $100. Give them both $50 and they are only half happy. Give one $100 and the other $0, and one is happy while the other is angry. Your totally right, ideally we should have more staff to deal with hackers so we don’t need to rely on the anti-cheat. The perfect ground is having lots of experienced, expert staff so we don’t need an anti-cheat.
